CHELMSFORD – A stranded MBTA Orange Line car that had been stuck in Chelmsford since Tuesday night has finally been removed.
A trailer hauling the new subway car dislodged from the truck that was pulling it on 495 north Tuesday evening, just before Route 3 and the Lowell Connector.
Rail car manufacturer CRRC MA said the car was heading to the MBTA's Wellington car house in Medford. It was not damaged.
No one was hurt. The trailer and train stayed on the highway overnight and into Wednesday afternoon, shutting down a lane of traffic on the highway into the evening hours.
Crews expedited plans to transfer the car to a new trailer Wednesday night as a winter storm began. The train was moved just before 9 p.m.
There's no word yet on what caused the incident.

Drivers in Chelmsford were stunned to see the brand new train car on the shoulder of the busy road.
"They need to be more careful with what they do with the trucks and how they manage the trailers," said Rafe, a Lowell resident. "They should have gotten it out of there early so people can get back to where they need to be."
