Kyocera AVX has added four and five position options to its 5.6mm tall 9176-700 series of insulation displacement wire-to-PCB connectors.

The connectors are soldered to the PCB in a tall state then, to terminate, insulated wires are inserted and the top of the connector is permanently pushed down to its final height. All four or five wires have to be terminated at the same time.

"No stripping is required – press down to provide a robust and reliable gas-tight connection to the PCB," according to the company. "The resulting connections have been tested to various levels of shock, vibration, and temperature cycling." Electronics Weekly has requested more information on these ‘various levels’.

Eight different internal options allow wires across 18 AWG stranded and 20-24AWG solid or stranded can be accommodated, with different thicknesses of insulation, and there are through-wire options that allow connection mid-wire for daisy chaining as well as the end-stop types – the latter of which cover the bare cut tip with an insulator.

Operation is up to 10A and 300Vrms (depending on wire size) and over -40 to +125°C. Compliance is to RoHS and UL 1977.

Other connectors in the series have 1, 2 or 3 ways, with single-way types rated to 600Vrms. Contacts are phosphor bronze with pure tin over nickel plating, and the insulator is glass-filled UL94 V-0 nylon – in white as standard, with black as an option. Single contact types can be made in blue, yellow, red, green, orange or brown to special order.

Applications are foreseen in automotive and transportation lighting, fuel valves and door handles, as well as in disposable surgical tools, medical devices and detonators.

The 9176-700 connectors can be found on this product page. "To purchase, please visit Arrow, Digi-Key, Future, Mouser or TTI", said KAVX.
