Delphi Corp. announced it is closing its plant in Clinton, MS by Dec. 31, laying off 280 people. Layoffs will begin Nov. 16, according to an Associated Press report. The plant opened in the early 1970s, and a company spokeswoman told the AP that the closure was due to a weak economy that has hit the automotive industry quite hard. The facility produces cable and wiring connectors for a variety of automakers, using its molding and assembly equipment. Production will shift to Warren, OH. Delphi's Brookhaven, MS plant, which employs 180, will not be affected. Delphi declined further comment in response to questions from Plastics Today. —[email protected]
