Electrical Issue Could Cause Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids To Suddenly Shut Down

A transmission wiring connector could short and stop the minivan in its tracks

A faulty wiring connector could cause engines to stall in over 67,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans. The issue is unique to models from 2017 through 2023. The automaker is aware of hundreds of warranty claims surrounding the problem and is now working to address all affected vehicles.

Chrysler says that the faulty wiring connector at the heart of this recall lies inside of the transmission itself. It's also limited to Hybrid models only so those without the electrified drivetrain can rest easy on this one. In these hybrid vehicles, the faulty connector can short-circuit and cause the vehicle to stall.

Searching through the public complaints about the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid it seems that a large number of individuals have experienced a similar issue. In many cases, they’ve reported being able to turn the car back on and continue on their way. In total, the automaker has recorded six customer assistance records, 59 field reports, and 242 warranty claims surrounding the problem.

Obviously, unexpected stalling isn't safe and so Chrysler is recalling 67,118 vehicles in the USA. The solution is to update the Power Inverter Module software and, if necessary, to update the instrument panel cluster software too. Customers who may have already had this issue and paid for it to be resolved will have those costs reimbursed as long as they still have the records of that work.

In total, the wiring connector issue actually affects some 76,000 Pacifica Hybrid vehicles in total but about 9,000 are outside of the USA. Thankfully, despite the hundreds of reported warranty claims and field reports surrounding the problem, Chrysler says it's unaware of any accidents or injuries surrounding the flaw.

Dealers should already be aware of the issue and owner notification letters will go out starting on March 8, 2023. Until then, Pacifica owners can verify whether or not their vehicle is affected by calling their local dealer or by contacting Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. The number for this recall is 03A.
